Developed by Genevo Marine, co-founded by Damon Rahmate and Andrew Davey, the electric motor yacht known as the Genevo E8, is set to revolutionise the electric boat market with its innovative design and sustainable features, incorporating cutting-edge technology and eco-friendly materials.
Collaborating with Deakin University for recycled carbon-fibre materials testing, the company aims to source materials from a planned aerospace carbon-fibre recycling plant in Australia. The E8 is also equipped with a high-performance electric drivetrain and battery pack, promising a generous range of approximately 50 nautical miles at top speeds, ensuring an exhilarating experience for users.
It also features an onboard charging technology that allows for flexibility and convenience, enabling users to charge dockside or even on trailers at standard roadside EV networks. The company plans to establish a fast-charging network at strategic marinas nationwide to support its fleet and meet the increasing demand for electric boats.
“Fast charging also greatly reduces charge times, meaning that people can get out there and enjoy the water,” said Gevo Marine founder Andrew Davey.
“The E8 will also feature domestic charger capability, enabling owners to charge from their solar systems at home for free.”
The E8, Genevo's first model, is designed to cater to a diverse range of users, from families to fishing enthusiasts, offering high-speed thrills with minimal environmental impact. With its powerful electric motor and lithium-ion battery, the E8 is expected to provide high performance with significantly reduced maintenance costs compared to traditional petrol engines.
Partnering with Mahi Boats on the Gold Coast for manufacturing, Genevo will aim to ensure stringent quality control and a commitment to sustainability throughout the production process. Production is set to commence in mid-2024, with the first units available for inspection and sea trials by the end of the year.
As Genevo Marine sets a new standard for electric boats, the E8 represents a significant milestone in Australia's transition towards sustainable maritime transportation.
