Plastic packaging

ANZPAC Plastic Pact

The New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, launched in 2018, is an initiative led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation to unite businesses, governments and other organization behind a common vision and framework for the circular economy of plastic packaging.

To be involved in the Global Commitment, citizens are encouraged to read and share an open letter to business and government to ‘Draw a line in the Sand’ on plastics packaging. Other organisations, such as business, governments, community groups and not for profits, can register their interest in the Global Commitment.

Companies who have become signatories to date represent 20% of all plastic packaging produced globally including well-known brands such as Nestle, PepsiCo, The Coca-Cola Company and Unilever. Signatories have all signed up to a set of 2025 targets, depending on their own context within the plastic packaging value chain.

Recognising that a shift to a circular economy for plastic packaging requires significant collaboration, the Plastics Pact network has been established to connect initiatives and organisations from around the world. Each initiative is led by one organisation brings together stakeholders from government, business and the community at a national or regional level.

In Australia Pacific, the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) are establishing the ANZPAC Plastic Pact, to be established in late 2020. For more information and to contact APCO about being involved go here
